| Sunday, January 30, 2011 | | | Playing to full houses at each of the three opening weekend performances, The Trip to Bountiful delighted audiences. Standing ovations met the cast at every curtain call. The remarkable revolving stage, designed by Mark Macauley, took us to five different locations, each scene change smoothly choreographed by director, Larry Eisenberg. Even the scene changes got applause!

| | Monday, January 24, 2011 | | Lots of excitement at the Group Rep - The Trip to Bountiful opens this Friday at 8pm. Down to the wire and everything is just about set. The cast has been ready – they could have opened last week. The crew, however, is going insane! The Lonny Chapman theatre was short-term home to the Academy for Children’s Theatre’s production of Into the Woods. Their production closed last night so we are putting in long days in order to get our set onto the stage for Friday’s opening. Our scenic designer, Mark Macauley, has created a wonderful mobile set that will revolve throughout the play intensifying the feeling of traveling for Horton Foote’s play about a physical and spiritual journey.
For the past two weeks, the set has been constructed and stored in our parking lot. Judy Garland was making the costumes in her uncle’s barn! Considering how crazy the weather in SoCal has been for the past two months, especially with the driving, relentless rain, the theatre gods really shined on us with two weeks of dry, hot sunshine. One night, Director Larry Eisenberg even rehearsed the cast on the parking lot set in the light of the full moon for a taste of the actual experience of an all night stay in a bus station.
The show opens January 28th, and plays every Friday/Saturday evening at 8pm, Sunday matinees at 2pm, closing March 6th. For reservations: 818-700-4878.

| | Saturday, January 01, 2011 | | Happy New Year from The Group Rep!
Rehearsals are in full swing for our premiere production for the 2011 Season, The Trip to Bountiful.
The original Broadway production of Horton Foote’s drama was in 1953. It starred Lillian Gish as Carrie Watts and a young Eva Marie Saint as Thelma, one year before her Oscar winning performance as Marlon Brando’s girlfriend in On the Waterfront. That same year, Gish and Saint reprised their roles for a televised version of the play. The 1985 independent film version of The Trip to Bountiful almost didn’t get made, as Horton Foote could only see Lillian Gish as his leading lady. He would agree to allow the production to go forward only if Geraldine Page or Kim Stanley would be cast as Carrie Watts. The film was Geraldine Page’s eighth Academy Award nomination and her first win. She was the first actress to win both the Oscar and the Independent Spirit Award for the same film.
The Group Rep is proud to present Gwen Van Dam in the role of Carrie Watts and Liza de Weerd in the role of Thelma. Amongst her many accolades, Van Dam won the Valley Theatre League award for Best Supporting Actress in The Ballad Hunter at the Road Theatre. Liza de Weerd was recently seen in the southland at ICT's A Shayna Maidel, a performance for which she garnered Stage Scene LA’s Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama award. She can also be seen in the upcoming Nickelodeon show, Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures.
The show opens January 28th, and plays every Friday/Saturday evening at 8pm, Sunday matinees at 2pm, closing March 6th. For reservations: 818-700-4878.
